Social and emotional learning is a piece of teaching the whole child. My students come to school with so much on their plates that they struggle with regulating their emotions, understanding their emotions, and interacting with peers.
Books such as "Piecing Me Together", "Stephen Curry: The Boy Who Never Gave Up", and "The Invisible Boy" will allow my students to hear stories about people/characters who look, feel, and relate to their own experiences which will then lead to conversations, reflection, and ultimately learning.
Games and fidgets such as Don't Go Bananas, 3D sculpture ring, and Magnetic Magic Cubes will allow my students to practice the skills that we are working on in class through natural play.
Aristotle says, "Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all."
