All of our students would like to build their reading and writing skills through listening. Studies have shown that children who listen to books develop reading skills like vocabulary and comprehension, become better readers and decoders, and develop a love for reading and knowledge. I hope to create a listening library with a variety of genres to suit my diverse group of learners. Listening centers involve the use of headphones, books, and CDs to listen while reading along to books. My students are in need of listening center books, CDs, and headphones to use in a listening center. Many students do not have access to a listening center beyond early grades. I feel it is pertinent to their reading development. If my students had these materials available, they would be able to listen and follow along in their choice of books with ease. I'd love to see students benefit through the use of these resources.
Students in 3rd grade still need to further develop their listening and reading skills that will continue to help them become great readers beyond high school and into adulthood.
