After numerous years of not adopting a new high school Art textbook in our county, my classroom has been left with partial sets of 20-30 year old textbooks that are way too few for most of my classes. While, the art contained in them is not irrelevant, they are lacking any contemporary artists from the last 30 years, as well as a large deficit in a more well-rounded, diverse art history. In addition to being in a pitiful state, they are falling apart from over 20 years of use. Scholastic Art magazine would help to bring more contemporary artists and diverse artists into my student's scope, and supplement my lessons. This resource would help my students with building their literacy skills while amplifying their visual literacy skills. Also,it was recently announced that this year Scholastic Art is going to be connected with Google Classroom, which will be another benefit to students, since this is a platform used by our school system. In addition, these magazines would also benefit future students that take my classes.
