When students come to class without supplies, it is so embarrassing for some that they would rather sit and do nothing than call attention to themselves. I have noticed over my 20 year career that the number of students that are diagnosed with anxiety, stress, and ADHD have sharply increased, but the mental needs of high school students often go unaddressed. Relationships are important to me, as I am the teacher that makes you work harder than you thought you could and provide the safe place for you at school. It is true that the kids that need love the most don't always show it in the most loving ways. I have seen the damage of bullying and want to relieve some stress from these kids on their path to the future. My goal is to provide my Falcons with school supplies which are desperately needed in my Spanish classroom for the upcoming school year. My students will read, write, speak, and listen to Spanish in my class. The internet provides me with all that I need to do these things, but the consumables that would help students are costly. I plan to have students write to pen pals, create "foldable" notes, graphic organizers, and interactive notebooks. We will also make flash cards, anchor charts, and all sorts of presentations that will need to be displayed. The teacher in me always pulls from my pockets to pay for supplies for my students. My students need to see videos and hear audio, have supplies for creating images, diagrams, and notes, and finally classroom incentives to encourage students to step out of their comfort zones and soothe their anxiety.
