Students read to themselves, in groups or in partners daily in class. Giving students a choice where they can sit gives them some ownership over their reading. For some students having the ability to sit away from the other students who are in desks allows them to focus more easily on what they are reading. Bean bags in the classroom help make students feel at ease in a home-like setting.
The requested rug will help support our classroom culture by giving students a safe space for morning meetings, the time we can discuss various issues and build community. This also provides an area near the book corner for students to explore in small groups.
