My students are 6 and 7 year olds and by nature they are ACTIVE and STRONG WILLED! I often hear, 鈥淢rs. Powell, I just CAN鈥橳 sit still!鈥 To help keep them engaged in the learning and to support their busy nature, I would like to provide them with flexible seating options.
Every child鈥檚 needs are different and providing them with various seating options will allow them a unique opportunity to discover what their optimal learning environment is and then choose the best seating option to support their learning in that environment.
A major part of 1st grade is helping to build independence and teaching students how to make responsible choices. The wobble chairs and the wobble cushions will allow students who are struggling to sit in a traditional chair an opportunity to recognize this and choose a seating option that will allow them to be more successful. The seating options are also easily moveable, even for small children, so the students will also be able to move them around the room and utilize them during small group and independent work time.
I chose six of each of the flexible seating options because my small groups usually consist of 6 students. This will allow everyone an opportunity to access the option that is most suitable for their learning needs.
