Your donation will support the creation of an antiracist library in every, single TK-5 classroom. Literature plays such a foundational role in how we see ourselves and others, how we see the world, and how we see ourselves and others in the world.
These books will lift up the stories of black children and families, as well as those of Latinx, Muslim, LGBTQ+, and other too-often underrepresented groups.
Through this literature, our students will be able to see and learn about not only struggles and pain but celebrations and triumphs, beauty and brilliance.
In order to create an antiracist school, our staff must also ground ourselves in a text that will inform our antiracist actions. Your donation will also support the purchase of "Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and me" for every member of the Firestone Staff. Written by Ibram X. Kendi and Jason Reynolds, this "remix" of Kendi's book, "Stamped From the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America," is a beautifully written, thorough, and accessible account of the history and legacy of racist ideas and racism. We, as a staff, cannot be antiracist nor lead our students down a path of antiracism if we are not rooted in a deep understanding of racism.
Thank you so much for your support!
