Every student's reading journey is different. Some gravitate immediately toward chapter books -- the novels' intricate character webs entrance them from a young age, and they beg for more independent reading time at the end of the school day.
Other students take a less linear path toward lifelong readership. It's these students -- the ones who put down every book in the library; the ones who think they can't read on their own; the ones who think reading just isn't for them -- that I hope to engage with this project.
Each graphic novel, "Who Was..." book, and "I Survived" book has been carefully selected to spark interest and remove common barriers to chapter books for even the most reluctant readers. Every reader, no matter what reading level, deserves the chance to find that one book -- sometimes their very first chapter book -- that transforms their mindset about their own ability to read.
These books will help my students enjoy reading, believe in themselves, and inspire other reluctant readers to do the same.
