Children of all ages love to be read to. I read chapter books to my 3-6 grade classes and they love it! Many of my students are struggling readers and never believe they can read a chapter book themselves. By reading aloud to them they hear the cadence of my voice; this brings the story to life for them. They also get to see me fumble over word pronunciation sometimes, which shows that nobody is perfect. By modeling this behavior, (the cadence, not the fumbling), they can practice it themselves. When we finish a book most of them want to reread it.
Your donation will allow more students to be able to read the story themselves. When the students have their own copy to follow along with, they can not only hear the word, but they can see the word as I say it. This is a "light-bulb" moment for many of them. Most times I only have 1 or 2 other copies available to them. If they have to wait for somebody else to return a book, the enthusiasm and confidence that they can read it themselves wanes and disappears.
Having more copies available will enable more excited readers.
