First grade students, are emergent readers, who need lots and lots of books, both to chose from, and to read, and share about daily. I provide this opportunity each day in our classroom, yet, I would like to ALL students, to have access to monthly books to take home, claim as their own, adding their name to the inside cover of each book, then to read and share their ideas and insights, having book conversations with their families at home. I believe that providing take home books for all, will provide more time on text outside of the school day, as families read together they can also help grow their child's love of reading and help to improve their reading ability so they are set for continued success in second grade!

About my class
