Even though San Jose in the Silicon Valley, one of the most affluent counties in the world, East San Jose is a underserved pocket. Schools in East San Jose simply don't provide quality education. Alpha Public Schools is different. We provide academically rigorous curriculum linked closely with social-emotional growth to provide an avenue for scholars to access the same opportunities as their affluent peers across town.
This year Alpha Public School's Jose Hernandez location is building an elementary school to feed into their middle school. Alpha is not yet elementary friendly. As a founding Transitional Kindergarten teacher, I have access to limited access to middle school supplies such as ballpoint pens, loose leaf binder paper. This is a problem. Kindergarteners have different needs. We need colored felt. We need glue and scissors and crayons... and lots of it.
We are the first step in preparing for academic rigor. In order for students to be successful in a challenging and fast-paced academic they need to be curious and excited to learn. Our curriculum is designed to engage the little people. Games, songs, art, read-alouds, imaginative play, and sensory activities in a joyful environment are the vehicle in which scholars learn and grow. Transitional Kindergarten creates the bridge between creative explorative fun and curious learning. I need help from the Kids in Need Foundation so that my scholars can go the places they need to go.
