My students need books in the classroom with characters and stories that reflect who they are and what they find interesting. This library will help engage resistant young adolescent readers. The books are selected to reflect the identities and represent cultural commonalities that are not found in traditional children's literature.
Students must develop rigorous reading habits and analytical skills to prepare for 21st-century college and career readiness. We will use student response to independent reading to enrich our skills-based lessons and enrich our community discussion of stories we enjoy. My goal is to keep students reading and discussing memorable characters that promote lifelong reading habits that last a lifetime.
