My students tend to not have many books at home. I want them to be surrounded by beautiful books in our classroom that will encourage them to pick up a book and read. Reading begins when children pick up a book and create their own story by looking at pictures. As the school year progresses, they are able to identify and figure out unknown words and by the end of the year they are reading simple sentences.
An excellent classroom library can make a huge difference in children's attitudes towards books and reading. As an avid reader myself, I want to instill a love of books and reading in my students. This begins with beautiful books that they can read independently as well as the ability to choose the books that interest them.
