The quote that hangs on my wall says, “Knowledge is power” and I preach it to my students every day; but learning looks differently in my room. I believe that it is important to educate my students on real-world issues so they can feel more prepared when the time comes to graduate and choose their own paths. This novel will give them insight into three different time periods when refugees were fighting for freedom and survival. Through independent reading, character analysis, and class discussions, the powerful stories shared in this book will captivate, inspire, and motivate my students to hopefully become lifelong learners.
