My students have the opportunity to explore and learn through play and many structured activities throughout their day. These puppets will be used to support phonemic awareness and social-emotional development during whole group, small group, and active learning times that are related to our themes. They will promote the development of social skills through role-playing, cooperative learning, and community awareness. One of our themes is about family and community and the community puppets will promote understanding of community workers. Phonemic awareness is critical for learning to read and write. The alphabet puppets will be used to learn letters and letter sounds in a variety of ways. The alphabetic principle is the idea that letters and groups of letters represent the sounds of spoken language. My students love to learn by doing, and these hands-on materials will allow them to do that.
