Part of being in school, especially in a primary grade-level, is learning to become organized and take responsibility for your materials, whether they are your personal items or supplies provided by the classroom. My students will learn to be organized and keep track of their homework and supplies.
In order to help my students achieve this organized independence, I need to give them a safe and clean place to hang up their backpacks, jackets, and lunches.
With a class of 24 (and sometimes more) students, it becomes very crowded and overwhelming with all the backpacks, jackets, and lunches in the classroom. There are no hooks inside for them to hang their items up, and when the students hang their backpacks on their chairs, the chairs sometimes tip backwards from the weight. This becomes a safety issue, as students can easily trip over the bags and chairs. It also makes it very difficult for the teacher to walk through the classroom and monitor learning.
The children deserve a clean place to hang their personal belongings. This also helps the students have peace of mind knowing that their backpacks are in their designated place, not being stepped on, laying on the dirty floor outside, or getting lost in a pile of bags on the ground. They can keep their items organized and in their place and focus on learning!
