My students have agreed to pilot the Modern Band Program from Little Kids Rock at our K-8 school. We've had 5 days of instruction, and my enrollment is still increasing.
I am committed to including every child, with absolutely no conditions.
Students are learning all styles of music, including the music they enjoy. They will learn to write music, write lyrics, rap, improvise and play several instruments all in their first year.
In order to do this, I scaffold, scaffold, scaffold. The students love having choice, they love making music, and now they need instruments in their hands! My focus is on instruments that are compact and easy to store, since we have a relatively small space to work in.
