Little ones learn by touching and exploring, and I try to provide my kindergartners with as many opportunists to do so as possible. They are fully engaged when they can measure the length of objects using blocks in the classroom or build a floor puzzle on the floor with their friends. They enjoy their hands on learning time, even if they have to do it on the floor most of the time.
I want to provide them with a comfortable and engaging space for their learning. I visual the rug as a place for the students to sit and read during quiet time, build a city of blocks during free center time, learning about shapes with their Magna-Tiles during math time, and learning at all times.
