I am so excited to use these materials to help my little makers and builders get excited about science, math, and creativity. The idea is that every single one of these items can be used for free play, as well as teacher-directed activities. For example, if you know just one child under the age of 10, you have probably seen them do some amazing things with Magnatiles that have totally blown your mind. Magnitiles are great for free-choice time. My idea is to also use them for lessons on shapes, as well as for STEM challenges such as "can you build something that can go underwater", how many blocks can you take away from your tower before it falls, or taking them outside to see if they can build a model of the school.
Can you imagine building a life-sized fort in your classroom? We can't wait to show you. This will be a fun carpet activity and eventually, I would like to encourage them to build a puppet theater, reading area, or other semipermanent structure as the year goes on.
Have you heard of Brackitz? They are an old school toy that the kids love. They use them to make robots and all sorts of other cool things. During the second half of the year, we can use them for lessons on balance and some other fun projects.
There are a few other small things that will be a big hit, like the marble run and gears.
Thank you so so much for considering this project. Everything has been kid-tested and teacher-approved at my previous school where my former students helped me make this list based off of the activities they enjoyed and they were so thrilled to be a part of this.
