These books will allow my students to continue to learn in a print-rich environment which I strive to create! Our classroom library is the heart of our classroom! Students LOVE to book shop, we sit on that area on the carpet together to discuss their reading, I read aloud many genres of books to them from that library. A side from the students, it truly is the best part of our classroom. Every book within this library has the potential to open students up to new ideas, new ways of thinking, and of seeing the world that exists around them for possibly the first time. Literacy in third grade is my favorite subject for this very reason! I have noticed that, while we have many fabulous fiction series for students, we are lacking when it comes to high-interest, non-fiction books. I had a few students last year who struggled in the majority of their day at school. However, when it came time for reading and they could get their hands on the few non-fiction books I had, they were all-in. I have seen what an impact, strong non-fiction texts can make in students' lives and I hope through this project that we can provide that even more for the students who enter my classroom!
