Do you remember the TV show Cheers? It was a welcoming place where everyone had a special place to sit. Many school libraries, including mine, have a limited budget. I choose to spend every penny on books for my students to read. That leaves little to no money left for updating a library. This year we are migrating from an intermediate library to an elementary library with no additional funding for the change. By helping fund this project the library will be more welcoming for our little's as they will have a couch their size to sit and read on. Being able to read comfortably increases fluency in readers! Increased fluency makes strong readers.
Readers are inquisitive, they are gatherers of facts and information, they are life-long learners! Readers imagine, they learn to focus and concentrate, they improve their memory, and they improve their ability to communicate.
As we strive to create 21st-century learners, we must look at the basic needs of our readers. A comfortable place to read is a must-have in any library.
"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." Dr. Seuss
