Many of my students feel that our school is like a home away from home. So I would like to create a comfortable classroom where each student feels welcome and ready to learn. After sitting through long meetings in uncomfortable chairs, I realize how awful it must be to sit in stationary desks for 7 hours each day.
I would like to give my students flexible seating and learning options. As a special education teacher, I need to consider the varied needs of each individual student. I teach students who are learning with Emotional Behavioral Disorders, Learning Disabilities, Autism, and Developmental Disabilities. It works well when students have some choice in deciding how they learn best.
With your help, I will add more seating choices to my room including wobble stools, ball chairs, bean bags, end tables, and clipboards. Additionally, I’ve asked for a water cooler so students are able to stay hydrated and not have to leave the room to get a drink of water. I also have asked for some items that help students focus -- stress balls and chair fidget bands.
I would like to make the classroom one where students feel safe and love being in the space. I am excited to give students even more options to their learning by using your donation.
