Many children learn how to read, but finding their voice--learning how to write in order to communicate their thoughts, feelings, hopes and dreams for the future--is a challenge for teachers. To motivate my students to write more, I will begin by reading books from this wonderful collection that I am requesting. Some of the books are funny, hilarious; some thought-provoking; some informational; and some are examples of how to state your opinion. All the books are terrific examples of literary text that will enhance my students' writing. After students hear the stories, they will take part in a writer's workshop, where they will develop their voice. Those who speak up, who use their voice, are the ones who can change the world.
