Our unit on suspense has given us the opportunity to do a novel study on Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. However, as a new teacher I do not have access to, or own, a classroom set of this novel. It is important for students to be able to follow along while the novel is being read. It will also help them to be able to better cite their evidence for questions that will be asked and for them to be able to better execute the job they will hold for the day, such as reporter or photographer.
Novel studies lend to a better understanding of a novel, due to the fact that students are learning from each other as they explore the book and the meaning behind the author's purpose. Novel studies are a fun and innovative way to learn. I am really excited to be able to bring a novel study of a book that the students have heard about but possibly haven't read, and that was recommended by our curriculum.
