Students at my lower elementary school TK-3 experience emotional and behavioral challenges during a lengthy school day. When their brain is misfiring due to stress, they are simply unable to learn.
Having a calming corner/sensory space in each classroom helps teach students how to ask for a break appropriately, emotional awareness, and how to use tools to calm themselves. This helps set them up to be able to engage in appropriate emotional regulation for life. Students can transfer these skills to the home. This project is to benefit 20 classrooms at a lower elementary school. (I am a school psychologist).
