Our world is ever-changing and full of choices. Why shouldn't the 21st-century classroom strive to do the same? Flexible seating gives students a choice to sit where and how they feel that they learn best. They can change locations and positions as often as allowed in order to better focus or join other students in an all-inclusive collaborative setting.
The cushions that I am asking for are sensory and allow fidgety students a way to focus by touching the bumpy ridges and giving them the ability to wiggle without risking their safety or distracting other students from learning. Sensory seating has been proven helpful for students with several learning disabilities.
The seat cushions are also fun colors, and allow us to cross boundaries that traditional chairs and stools provide. Students can choose to sit at the floor tables to work on their art projects as a group, or if they need to focus they can pick up their cushion and find a cozy corner that inspires them to work. If we need to sit together as a group for a lesson on the carpet, or even travel outside for an observational drawing lesson, students of all ages will easily be able to carry these cushions with them while staying comfortable and safe. The round carpets we have now for seating are slippery, and covered in messes from our art materials. These plastic cushions are slip-resistant, and easy-to-clean. Please help me provide my students with an art room experience that they will always remember with joy. Thank you very much for your consideration.
