The purpose of arts education is not to produce more artists, though that is a byproduct. The real purpose of arts education is to create complete human beings capable of leading successful and productive lives in a free society.

I could not agree more. As an older teacher, I have watched students learn, create and remember throughout my career. When struggling readers have the opportunity to creatively or emotionally connect to school, a concept. or even a simple motivation system, great things happen in a classroom and in children's lives.
The art supplies will give my students an opportunity to create projects based on the learning happening in the reading curriculum. Our curriculum often asks questions that get students thinking about the connections between art and science. The science supplies will give my students visual referents for our next Wit and Wisdom unit on space. The hamster supplies will give our classroom pet a much needed housing upgrade. Finally, the little eraser buddies will be used for behavior incentives and motivation.
