My classroom is going through a huge change! For over four years I’ve taught the graduating class of 8th graders. This year I will be teaching brand new kindergarteners with Autism. This project will help set up my room so that the students can have opportunities to learn in a welcoming and friendly environment.
My students are projected to have emotional disorders. By creating a class that’s warm and comfortable with places for the students to calm down and regain composure, I’ll be aiding them in further succeeding.
I believe that students who are allowed to move around and are able to feel comfortable in their space they will succeed. For example, flex seating will allow our students to complete projects on the floor; flex seating also allows for students to gain motor skills by having them have to balance themselves. If a student does have a behavior, flex seating also allows the adults the opportunity to provide hands on help in order to aid in coping skills.
