My students come from various backgrounds and have different learning needs. Read alouds are imperative to their literacy success. They need to see a proficient reader model reading with expression and enthusiasm.
If my students had their own copies of Bud, Not Buddy during the daily read aloud, they would be able to utilize their reading strategies more effectively and "play that movie" in their mind. Following along with a read aloud helps students connect written words to spoken language, which will aid in my students' comprehension tremendously. They will have the opportunity to develop their vocabulary and understanding of story elements.
