Over the past two years, my school has been pushing the limits of what it means to be a flexible environment. We are providing personalized learning through unique scheduling, intervention programming, and access to community members as mentors. I want to further this mission by extending flexibility to the spaces in my room.
Students are more likely to be engaged and productive when they feel comfortable, physically comfortable!
Few people (children and adults alike) enjoy sitting in the hard plastic molded chairs provided to public schools. When I ask my students how they work at home, I hear everything from "chilling on the couch" to "laying in bed." If my students prefer soft seating and the option to work while lounging, then I say let's give it to them!
