Storyworks Jr. is a literacy magazine designed for second and third grade students. The passages in each issue are from multiple genres, such as high interest non-fiction, plays, paired articles, poetry, debates, and realistic fiction.
Student subscriptions to Storyworks Jr will support the print rich environment of my classroom, as well as support students reading multiple genres of text. With a subscription, students have access to the passages on-line, where they can listen to the passage and watch a video companion for the non-fiction article in each issue. There are also on-line vocabulary tools. The teacher portal for the magazine has resources to support close reading, vocabulary, comparing and contrasting, quizzes, and reading comprehension.
Using Storyworks Jr. will allow my students the opportunity to make connections with the world, and discuss their learning with their peers. They will be able to take the magazines home and share their learning with their families.
