One of the biggest problems we have in our district is low reading grades. Even the brightest students remain stagnant if not challenged. Being new at this campus, I have a very limited classroom library, having been given boxes of books other teachers gave away. I carefully chose the ones I kept, but I would like to add quality books that I know would benefit my dual language students--books that are meaningful, books that will interest them, books that they'd want to share or pick up and read over again. I love reading to and with my students, and I want to instill that love of books in them. I would like all my students to know the power of being fluent readers.
I pride myself in having a welcoming classroom, and in our small classroom setting, besides having a purposeful library, I also want to instill the need to stay organized and clutter-free, so that our learning can be the focus. Giving my students the opportunity to have storage units to help them store their individual supplies and materials will help make our flexible seating classroom less crowded and more manageable.
