We will use the xylophones to reinforce beats and rhythms, music literacy, composition, collaboration, improvisation, and as an expansion to other musical activities such as accompanying songs and games.
These instruments will open up a new world to my music students!
Xylophones are a simple but versatile keyboard instrument that can easily be made accessible to students of all ability levels. It gives students a tool that they can use to make visual, aural, and physical connections to music. Being able to look at they keys of the xylophones gives students a visual representation of the tonal patterns in music. Striking the keys with a mallet creates a physical connection to both the beat and the pitch. Doing both things together with other students creates a sense of belonging, purpose, and connection to the music and to others.
