The Book Whisperer author Donalyn Miller writes, "Students will read if we give them the books, the time, and the enthusiastic encouragement to do so." Providing a wide variety of quality, high-interest books is a fundamental step in supporting students to establish a thriving reading identity. As a Spanish Language Arts teacher, finding engaging, authentic books in Spanish is no easy task. At the onset of the pandemic, my already scarce classroom library was depleted as we sent students home with books we had previously gathered over the years to ensure that they had the resources they needed to thrive while learning from home. When my new cohort arrives in the fall, I want them to step into a classroom that emphasizes the prominence that reading will hold all year. This project is the first phase of replenishing my classroom library, with a heavier focus on fiction books to prepare students for the first Reader's Workshop unit on Character Study. This project will also provide students with books of their choice for Independent Reading time, thereby enriching their experiences with Spanish texts.
