As an incentive and motivation, I always incorporate a Classroom Store into my classroom. My students are able to earn Scholar Dollars for any positive and constructive behavior that they display. Each Friday, they are able to shop at the store for their hard work and effort.
My classroom store has always been a gem in my classroom that the students can't resist. However, with the closing of the only full-service grocery store in our community, there is a new sense of urgency for our Classroom Store.
I do not want my students to come to school hungry or leave school worried about their next meal. The need is real. We must ensure that we have engaged learners that will be the catalyst to rejuvenating this same community. Hunger should be the least of their concern.
