Kids today are in school longer than ever and do not play outside as often as they used to. Many kids are needing to be able to fidget and move. We do brain breaks but still kids are in their seats more than not. Students need to be able to be comfortable and get anything their sensory needs require to focus and learn.
Choosing where you learn is important to students. Kids who have choice in their needs have a more positive attitude and are more productive. Students can be in an area and a seat that meets their needs. For example, a student can sit on a wobble chair so they can get the movement they need to focus. Cushions and pillows are relaxing and help students sit comfortably so that they can collaborate easily.
My class is a home away from home. We focus on our "family" and flexible seating helps my classroom seem warm and inviting. Please help us "2nd grade and CHILL! "
