I have found that most of the time my kids just need to find the right book. I have hand picked books for book clubs (any request for multiple books). My goal in choosing books is to have current popular titles and books I have personally read and loved. The hope is that in our book clubs they fall in love with their book and become life long readers. I also requested the book series sets because once they have read a book with their peers most students want to read the next book in the series. I have also included graphic novels for my intervention classes. I have found that since we have a shorter amount of time to read and it takes us longer to read the best way to finish an entire book is with graphic novels. These books also connect with any English Language Learners too because they get to see pictures to help the decipher the language. I plan to use these books with both classes.
