Students come to school and sit in the same hard seats all day long. As the day wears on I see students becoming more and more squirmy and uncomfortable at these desks. Whenever I have to sit in them for even a short time I become uncomfortable, so I can't even imagine being in one all day. We are requesting a carpet and bean bag seats and chair pads for comfortable seating in the classroom.
Last year I added two standing desks to my classroom, but they are expensive and not all students want to stand. I want to give students each a cushioned seat while still keeping their desk space for learning activities. I think adding a simple cushion on each chair will help students focus more on their education and less on feeling uncomfortable.
The reading area is so important for students. I feel that reading is one of the most important activities students (and adults) should be doing. Students will enjoy having a special place in the classroom to go enjoy a book. This is also a great way to get students who finish their assignments early to read!
