My students love having books read to them. Fun picture and chapter books are always great, but I want to incorporate their love of being read to with their social/emotional development. I am building a social/emotional and developmental bibliotherapy library for my classroom. I use these books to teach social, emotional, and behavioral skills using characters from the books as examples.
As my students relate to the characters in the books, and the situations they find themselves in, I use the books as a bridge to support my students exploring when and how to use these new behaviors. We act out the books and my students get to role-play the new skills and behaviors in a way that is both safe and fun.
