When first graders get a chance to share individually, they feel special. I often ask for volunteers who would like to bring their work up to share on the document camera. They might show a sentence that they have written, an answer to a math problem, or many other varieties of work.
Not only do I want my students to feel comfortable showing their work, but I also want them to feel comfortable talking about their work. This can be tricky at times for first graders. They often have such quiet voices that it makes it difficult for their peer audience to listen. When the audience can't hear what is being said, it hard for them to give their full attention.
To solve this problem, I am hoping to purchase a karaoke machine with Bluetooth microphones. With this device, I will be able to offer my students a way to clearly project their voices. This will help their peer audience stay more engaged and will help them become more comfortable sharing information to a group of their peers.
