A few years ago, I worked at a district that distributed iPads to teachers. I remember it was my first time teaching physics and I certainly struggled teaching it, and even more so, I struggled being able to provide my students a helpful resource for them to revisit the content they learned. All of that changed when I learned about the educator apps on the iPad. It changed everything for me. The most useful part for me was the ability to walk through concepts and content Khan Academy style with my students. I could upload those walk-through videos to YouTube for posterity. They students were so grateful I could do that for them and they told me how grateful they were for those videos. I have found that even today, even though I teach at a different school now, students from my old school still use those videos!
We live in a virtual world, and we, as educators, need the tools necessary to navigate this virtual world for the greatest benefit for our students. Being able to use the iPad to be able to work through problems in real time with my kids is absolutely imperative to their learning. We can't be in the classroom at this moment of time, but I know that being able to have a virtual whiteboard that the iPad can provide is essential to their learning. Using the iPad changed the way I provided content to my students, and I think that now, more than any other time, its absolutely crucial for me to use as many tools as possible to make sure my students still have a fair shot at a good education in my class.
