Teaching first graders how to read is both exciting and challenging. I use a variety of tools and methods in my classroom to ensure my students are actively learning and reading throughout the day. For some students, this can require a little more. Some extra tactile, visual, and auditory support can be extremely beneficial in aiding struggling readers and/or English Language Learners.
Technology and interactive learning experiences can really make an impact on struggling readers! The use of educational apps and games on a tablet allows students to have fun while learning how to read. They can actively participate in graphic stories or games, and activities that will aid with things like phonics, phonemic awareness, and word recognition. Having visuals on the tablets will help both English speaking and English Language Learning students match words with pictures. Experiences can be different for all different levels of learners and the difficulty of apps, stories, and games can certainly be adjusted for ALL students.
The focus for this project is to build an Interactive Listening Center to be used during Reading Centers in my 1st grade classroom. However, these Amazon Fire 8 HD Tablets can be utilized across all areas of curriculum! Please help me build the technology in my classroom and reach all of my growing readers in 1st grade! Thank you very, very much! Your kindness and generosity is appreciated more than you know!
