Reading aloud to upper graders in one of the most effective (and often overlooked) strategies to further develop students' love of literature. The wonder novel, "The One and Only Ivan," is a story of courage, hope, friendship, empathy and the power of fulfilling your promises to others. By reading this novel aloud with my students, they will not only be exposed to this pull-at-your-heartstrings story (which is actually based on a real-life story of a gorilla named Ivan), it will also allow me to model the skills good readers use--making predictions, summarizing, learning about character traits, themes, and so much more! This class set of books will be used for several years. Your generous donation will impact scores of my eager 4th-grade scholars as they are captivated and touched by this story, thus fostering their love of literature and reading overall!
