The purpose of this building activity is to improve communication by writing clear and concise procedures of an original design.
Students will be paired with a fellow student. One pair, Team A, will build a structure of their creation using 25 to 30 building blocks of different colors, sizes, and shapes. They will have 15 minutes to create their structure without the other teams viewing their structure. They will develop and write the steps to build their structure.
The other pair of students, Team B, will receive the same exact set of blocks. Using the written steps, they will need to recreate Team A's structure within 10 minutes.
Students will compare the two structures when complete. They will discuss differences, what were the problems in writing the steps, and what were the problems in the building.
Additionally, these blocks can be used for additional stem activities.
