My students need access to books with a wide variety of characters in order to make the connections that are so valuable to texts. My wish is that every student is able to find a character that they can somehow identify with. Without these connections, it is very difficult to foster a love of literature. In addition, these books need to be within their Lexile ranges, which are often not available in our school library.
These books are for our individual reading assignments where students get to choose a book that is of interest to them and that they can relate to! Then, they keep a journal about the book and share a synopsis of the book with the class when they are finished, inspiring others to read their book too.
