The seating options I'm requesting help give my students choices that help empower their learning. It allows them to move and collaborate in a variety of different ways and to be able to make decisions that help them learn. This will help them to better engage themselves in the fun learning environment that is being created.
Students will be researching independently and creating videos and presentations. Headphones will enable them to work without distracting others. They will be able to listen, edit, and make changes in the classroom, instead of having to go in the hallway or another room that is quiet.
Providing challenging books will also support the needs of my higher level students. They will be using fiction and nonfiction books as evidence to support their driving questions while they work on projects. Project-based learning will help bring relevance to the required academic standards and help reach all students learning needs. The materials will help increase student engagement and active participation.
The dry erase clipboards will provide a place for students to record information and jot down any brainstorming/notes that they may have. With our back-to-school project, we will be discussing the pressure school can have on kids. We will Skype with former students from our building that have gone on to do very successful things. Questions can be written and quickly erased while they are interviewing.
