All of the students I teach have IEPs and learning is a struggle for them every single day in most classes. The students work really hard to earn their high school diplomas with a modified curriculum.
Some of the text we read are Beowulf, Iliad, Othello, A Thousand Splendid Suns, and Oliver Twist. I create centers for them to explore the novels while they also learn new skills and vocabulary.
I try to make every lesson fun and help my students all learn in the diverse ways that help them to comprehend. I would love to have more flexible seating options, sensory objects, and visuals to help them.
Plus I need books they will love to see and will want to read! I need books that look like and sound like my students to entise them to pick them up. I am also in great need of a bookshelf. I am an English teacher with books in crates! My classroom does not have a bookshelf.
Please consider helping my students love learning again. Many of them want to give up in high school and drop out beucase they get frustrated. I work in a low income area and may of the students need help with not only school supplies, but also just every day basic hygiene supplies and snacks. If I can provide the students with a classroom where they can not only learn but love learning and feel comfortable they will want to be there! Thank you so much for helping shape these future young minds!
