The wireless digital microscopes will be utilized in the classroom, in the field (field trips), and at home (if needed)! Our 5th graders enter into 6th grade with zero experience using a microscope, and while they learn a lot in 6th grade, they don´t get enough time to utilize their new skills. The digital microscopes I have requested allow for hands-on and hands-off learning, depending on the requirements placed upon us due to the pandemic. The digital capabilities take the learning beyond face-to-face learning and make our classroom interactive even if students are forced to stay at home. The classroom set of I Survived the American Revolution also will meet the needs of students at home, or in the classroom.
All of the materials requested are meant to build upon and support student learning across all the content areas. While learning about history, we will be reading historical fiction together, and listening to read-alouds delving into nuances of a specific culture. Science is tied into students´ learning about history in our analysis of diet, medical practices, illnesses, and cultural beliefs, and folktales. Learning the old ways, new ways, analyzing beliefs, respecting differences, and gaining insight for informed balanced practices is key.
Applications will be made between ancestral practices combined with the advancement of technology to establish the foundations of career development opportunities, planning for the future, and respecting the past.
