Kindergarten is such an important year in children’s academic career. In many case this is where students begin their love of learning and set the tone for a positive and successful academic career. Through the practice of listening to books read aloud, such as the listening center I am requesting, my students will increase their reading and comprehension skills leaving my kindergarten as readers! Research has shown that listening to books on tape/read aloud improve comprehension skills, build background knowledge, increases word exposure and improves vocabulary, develops grade level appropriate content knowledge and increases independence! For my English Language Learners this is also vital in their improving their English vocabulary.
