In 8th grade, we focus heavily on American history. Throughout the year, we make our way from the American Revolution, to the reconstruction, learn from the World Wars, and get caught up on current events. Students can learn from stories, pictures, and videos, but nothing compares to the real deal. Having the opportunity to visit a place so rich in history is invaluable.
"Having the opportunity to visit these sites and museums in person is a great way to direct your own learning."—Katie V.
While we are in DC we will have the opportunity to visit many of the Smithsonians, as well as Arlington National Cemetery, Mount Vernon, and many more. Students will be able to tour these sites at their own pace and curate their own historical experience.
"This is the first time most of us will be on a trip without our parents. We will get an idea of what our life will look more like in high school and college."—Skyy R.
The bridge between middle and high school means a lot of change in an adolescent's social-emotional development. This trip is the first time for many students where they will be leaving behind their parents to have an experience all their own. My goal is to make this a wonderful experience and get them excited to plan their next great adventure.
I have an exceptionally special group of students and a supportive set of parents. I want to show the students and parents how much I appreciate them all by putting on a great last hurrah that they will never forget!
